Betty Lou Peltier
Betty Lou Peltier, 76, passed away peacefully at her home in Eureka on Monday, June 11, 2012.
Betty was born April 6, 1936, in Eureka to Clifford A. and Jesse Mae Mackey. Betty attended grade school at Iowa Flats and graduated from Lincoln County High School in 1954.
On Nov. 13, 1954, she married Jim Peltier, and they made their home in Eureka for 57 years. Betty and Jim had four children: Wendy, Mike, Wade and Marcy. She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Becky, Christopher, Kaylene, Kristen, Michael, Kaylie and Paige; four great-grandchildren: Abby, Ava, Willow and Zephrin, along with many nieces, nephews and special friends.
Betty was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. She spent many years involved with the Sundowners Home Demonstration Club and the American Legion.
Many weekends during the summer you could find her and Jimmy camping on Grave Creek with friends and picking huckleberries. Betty enjoyed gardening and spent hours tending her flowers and vegetables. She was an avid bowler and the state tournaments would not have been the same without the Peltier Oil gals.
Betty enjoyed all things Christmas and picked out “special quilts” for her family from the Historical Village Quilters.
Many weekends were spent at the cabin on Dickey Lake, and she never did get the hang of water skiing, nor did she lose her fear of fireworks starting a fire on the 4th of July.
Betty’s smile radiated to everyone she met, and she will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and a love of entertaining her family and friends. Jim and Betty owned Peltier Oil and Jim’s Service, and she kept their books until she retired.
The family would like to thank Candy Gelderman for the loving care she provided to our mom, which allowed her to stay at home during her years with Alzheimer’s.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Aldus and Clara Mackey, her sister and brother-in-law Naomi and Wayne Robbe, sister-in-law Ramona Thompson and her great-nephew Justin Robbe.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; her children; Wendy Eaton and husband Craig of Eureka, Mike Peltier and wife Melinda of Anchor Point, Alaska, Wade Peltier and wife Cindy, Marcy Goheen and husband Scott, and No. 3 son, David “Bodie” Bodendick all of Eureka; brother Shirley Mackey and wife Dorothy of Spokane, Wash., and sister-in-law Betty Osterberg of Oro Valley, Ariz.; grandchildren Becky Stillo and husband Josh of Kalispell, Christopher Eaton of Bozeman, Kaylene Hinsberger and husband Zack of Homer, Alaska, Kristen Peltier and James Michael Peltier, Jr., both of Anchor Point, Alaska, and Kaylie and Paige Goheen of Eureka; great-grandchildren Abby and Ava Stillo, and Willow and Zephrin Hinsberger.
Services were held Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church followed by interment at the Tobacco Valley Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Eureka. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association for continued research for early detection and the hope for a cure. Please join the family in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sept. 15 in Eureka.
