Hazel Schermerhorn
Hazel Louise Schermerhorn died Aug. 15, 2012, in Auburn, Wash.
She was born in Eureka Sept. 2, 1914, to Joseph and Sarah Fuller. She was raised in Flagstone, British Columbia, and moved back to Eureka before she turned 21. She married Ivan Thomas Schermerhorn on Feb 15, 1940, in Kalispell.
They moved to Auburn, Wash., in 1952, where they raised five children. She was a homemaker for many years but went to work and retired from the Boeing Co. at age 62. In her retirement she traveled throughout the states with her companion of 36 years, Herbert Southwick.
She is survived by Herb; daughters Bonnie and husband Tim Flannery of Eureka; Denise and husband Dan Johnson of Covington, Wash.; sons Thomas and Richard Schermerhorn of Kent, Wash.; grandchildren James and Mark Flannery, Stephanie Jarvis, Donnice Kubie, Kim Butler, Danielle Nordstrom, Justin, Rebecca, Tyler and Nichole Schermerhorn; great grandchildren Erin and JT Flannery, Carson and Reilly Hewitt, Devan Scrimsher, Sheyanne Herron, Morgan Butler, Chloe and Luke Nordstrom, Payton and Taylor Schermerhorn; great great grandchildren Zakariah Gidican, Mya Flannery and Hudson Hewitt.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan; daughter Iva; parents Joseph and Sarah Fuller; brothers Jim, Orville and Bud Fuller; sisters Hattie Miller, Iva Peltier, Lillian Bean, Ada StaceSmith and Annie Bell Fuller.
A memorial service was held Aug. 21, 2012, at Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn, Wash. Burial will be in the Tobacco Valley Cemetery in Eureka on her birthday, Sept. 2, 2012, at 2 p.m. Please join her family in her burial service and lunch afterward at 135 Carpenter Lane, Eureka.
