He was an avid outdoors man, an outfitter for 40 years and a bronze artist and author. He was very active with his profession, interacting with the Forest Service, Montana Outfitters and Guides and the Fish & Game. He was passionate about his profession, serving on the Citizens Advisory Committee for seven years from 1995 to 2002.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walt Hawkins, and nephews Sam Hawkins and Benjamin Hawkins.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kathy Hawkins; son Matthew Gollahon of Williston, N.D.; daughter Heather Bogardus and son-in law Len of North Pole, Alaska; daughter Megan Hawkins of Eureka; mother Juanita Hawkins; brother Mike Hawkins and wife Suzy; brother Rick Hawkins and wife Yolanda; sister Linda Bruns and husband Ritchie; sister Sandy Hawkins, all of Eureka; many nieces and nephews; four grandsons: Liam, Brennen and Sully Bogardus of North Pole, Alaska and Garrett Gollahon of Cincinnati, Ohio.
He was very close to his wife’s family, the Haidles, and all the nieces and nephews and greats of that family. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed by many friends and clients.
Life was an adventure for Steve, and he lived it with gusto. Steve requested there be no formal service. A memorial service will be held later this summer. Donations can be made to his favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
