Howard “Joe” Newcomb, 68, passed away suddenly at his home in Eureka on Nov. 4, 2013.

He was born May 15, 1945, in Spokane, Wash. Joe grew up in Tacoma, Wash., but spent time in Montana as a young man before enlisting in the Army in 1969.

After his military career he moved back to Washington but always dreamed of moving back to Montana. He fulfilled that dream in 2004 when he retired and moved to Eureka.

Joe loved the outdoors. His passions included fishing, hunting and riding his Harley. He also enjoyed woodworking, delivering meals to the elderly and spending time with his family. His final glory was bagging his 5×5 bull elk just days prior to his death.

He was a loving husband, son, brother, father, uncle and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all.

Joe is preceded in death by sister Leona “Cissy” Meadors.

He is survived by wife Sherry; sisters Velda, Alice, and Marilyn; brothers Edward “Corky” and Charles “Chuck;” daughters Shawn and Joanna; sons Charles, Brent and Joseph; as well as 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A celebration of life was held at his home on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, where Joe was honored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  In attendance were friends and family from Washington, Montana, South Carolina, and Texas.

You are gone from this earth but never forgotten.
