Carol JoAnn Burlingham

 

Carol JoAnn Burlingham, 82, passed away of natural causes Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Mountain View Manor in Eureka.

She was born Sept. 25, 1930, in Plains to Burt and Myrle (Runyan) Walkley.

JoAnn grew up in Plains and attended grade school there.  She moved with her family to Seattle during her junior high years but they returned to Montana where she attended high school at Polson and Thompson Falls.

In 1947, JoAnn married George Gould in Polson, where they made their home.  She worked as a cook her whole life.

JoAnn and George parted ways, and she married Leo Deranleau in 1950.  They parted ways but remained friends for life.

In 1967, she married her best friend and soul mate, Frank Burlingham.  JoAnn enjoyed crafting of all sorts.  She was famous for her Santa Claus cookies.  She was very active in the community and worked in every restaurant in town.  She was affectionately known as the “hat lady.”  Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren were her life.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, Frank Burlingham of Eureka; children Barbara Burlingham of Eureka; Linda Tallent of Eureka; Jim Deranleau and wife Carol of Tokeland, Wash.; Rick Deranleau of Anchorage, Alaska; Carol Sleight and husband Craig of Enumclaw, Wash.; Dan Deranleau and wife Mindy of Tacoma, Wash.; Kim Kayler and husband Ron of Eureka; Ralph Burlingham and wife Sherry of Riverton, Wyo.; Gregg Burlingham and wife Tina of Eureka; and Deb Noller and husband Steve of Colorado; 29 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Services will be Monday, Oct. 15,  at 11 a.m. at the First Church of God in Eureka.  A potluck dinner at the church fellowship hall will follow services.
