Garland “Bryce” Hibbert



Garland “Bryce” Hibbert, 91, passed away peacefully of natural causes in the loving care of Mountain View Manor on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at the Eureka LDS Church on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013.

Burial with military honors will follow at the Tobacco Valley Cemetery. Viewing will be available to family and friends at Schnackenberg and Nelson Funeral Home in Eureka on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 5 p. m. to 8 p.m., and Friday morning from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the LDS Church.

Bryce was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Idaho Falls to Garland Bryce Hibbert Sr. and Ruth Larsen Hibbert, the second of five children.

He graduated from Garfield High in Los Angeles in 1939. He proudly served in the armed forces in the 503rd Parachute Regimental Combat Team during World War II. He participated as a paratrooper in the infamous recapture of Corregidor in 1945.

Following his military service, Bryce attended North Idaho College. He worked various jobs, including construction on Libby road. He retired in 1986 from Plum Creek.

After retirement, Bryce enjoyed a hobby of woodworking. His family enjoys many hand-crafted pieces of furniture and accessories Bryce made in his basement woodshop.

Bryce and Shirley Benson were married in 1947 and had three children: Hall, Dawn and Gary. They later were divorced. In 1958, he moved to Eureka, where he lived the rest of his life.

In 1962, Bryce married Peggy Elliot, and two children, Monte and Terri, joined the family.

Bryce was preceded in death by his wife Peggy; his parents; and his five siblings: Sue, Ken, Dean, Bob and Harold.

Bryce is survived by his son, Hal Hibbert of Spring Creek, Nev.; granddaughters Beth Meza (Juan) and Heather Hibbert (Loni); son Monte Grob (Terri) of Kalispell; granddaughters Trini Garrison and Darci Greenwood (Tim); daughter Dawn Frank (Ron), Pinehurst, Idaho; grandsons Brent Frank (Valerie); Darin Frank (Sarah); Jayson Frank (Natalie); Ryan Frank (Carrie); and granddaughter Alycia Seely (Tyler); daughter Terri Ling (John), Bellingham, Wash; granddaughters Raini Hale (Tyler); Mariah Marsh (Gabe); and Tessa Witham (Buster); and son Gary Hibbert (Betty), Helena; grandson Chris Hibbert (Bianca) and granddaughter Kenzie Camp (Nick); 36 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
